JAI 348 Just add ombre - Lift me up

Friday means a new challenge at Just Add Ink  & this week Rochelle wants us to Just Add Ombre. I've really been enjoying using the ombre look on cards lately so I definitely enjoyed this challenge. This is what I made.

First I created an ombre look background on some Irresistibly Floral paper with my ombre secret weapon, the sponge brayer, pool party & mint macaron ink. The embossed patterns on the paper give an added element of interest which I really like. I chose the diamond patterned paper as I thought the shape would work well with the balloons.

Speaking of the balloons, the large die cut balloon (Lift Me Up - Up & Away stamp & die bundle) also has an ombre look with more than a little clear Wink of Stella. I sponge brayered white card with flirty flamingo & pink pirouette ink then cut the balloon out. I also added a die cut foam layer backed with a watermelon wonder balloon (cut with the coordinating balloon dies in the set).
I also stamped two small balloon in flirty flamingo on pink pirouette card & added a little sponging to one of them.

The sentiment is also from the same Lift Me Up - Up & Away bundle. I stamped this on white card & brayered in mint macaron. Yes, I'm obsessed with the brayer.

I carried the ballon & ombre theme to the inside too.

If you like the sponge brayered look, take a look at this balloon pop up birthday card, & this floral card. I'll be featuring this in upcoming classes too if you're local to me.

The Just Add Ink team have included ombre in all sorts of projects this week so head over to the JAI blog for a look & try the challenge yourself.

I'll be back next time with more ideas for you to try. If you'd like to create your own hot air balloon cards, you'll can see & order all the supplies I used below. Remember to pin my card for later inspiration too.

Thinking of you - more butterflies & flowers

Remember this sympathy card from last week's Just choose two, butterfly-flowers challenge? I made another card at the same time using mostly the same supplies for another friend I wanted to cheer up... & I realise now it would have met the challenge too. #coincidence.

The pretty butterfly paper is also from the Falling in Love pack. I teamed it with lots of  circles (Stitched Shapes & Layering Circles dies) & a gorgeous floral die from the So Detailed die set from the Occasions Catalogue. You might recognise the stamped butterfly from my first card too.

I've learnt a photography lesson with this card too - never photograph a pink card on a pinky background. It really looks much more subtle irl.

Edited 19 Feb 2017 - This photo taken on my phone shows the true colours much better

So, which version of the card do you like more? This one or this one. Either way, remember to pin yor favourite for later inspiration.

Thanks for visiting today. I'll be back to share another card so pop back soon.

Inky wishes, Di

JAI 347 colour challenge - balloon pop up birthday

It's time for colour challenge week at Just Add Ink & we're playing with this combination of mint macaron, pear pizzazz & rose red. The team have used this in amazingly different ways, so you must check out their fab projects on the Just Add Ink blog too.

The two very different toned greens in this challenge definitely challenged me - I like each of them separately combined with rose red & perfect plum but both together not so much. So I decided to meet the challenge by using more of one & just a touch of the other & came up with a bold, brayered, balloon birthday card.

First I used my sponge brayers to create a rose red, perfect plum & mint macaron background - I'm really loving how easy they are to use. Truly brilliant. Who knew? I kept the other elements simple - some balloons (Balloon Adventures stamp & die bundle), in matching colours, which I also sponged with the brayer to add some shading. Again really quick & easy but very effective.

A multicoloured sentiment (also from Balloon Adventures) continues the look & couldn't resist framing it with a Stitched Shapes dies circle (again) & another circle cut from the Layering Circles dies.

The balloon theme gets even more fun in the centre with the easiest post up centre, thanks to the pop up thinlit die in the bundle. I love how the balloons pop off the white base too.

You could easily replicate this in any colour scheme to fit all sorts of occasions & people. The possibilities are endless. If you liked my card, pin the collage pic below for later inspiration.

Thanks again for visiting today. Leave a comment if you liked my card or have any questions & try the colour challenge too. Until next time..
