JAI 356 just choose two - balloon shadow box card

It's time for a just choose two challenge at Just Add Ink & this one's full of fun possibilities.

I decided to go with circles & balloons (hot air ones), to make my card, and yes the brilliant Lift Me Up stamps & Up & Away dies are inky again. Oh my goodness I'm loving these.

When the card is opened, you find this fun shadow box surprise inside.

Unsurprisingly it's called a shadow box card. They're so fun and easy to make, and folds flat for posting in a standard C6 envelope. My stamping bestie, Kellie found this fab shadow box card & video tutorial on Dawn Griffiths's blog.

I like to adjust cards to suit metric measurements and the standard A4 sized card we use in Australia, so we converted Dawn's version to suit. As A4 card is longer than US 8.5 x 11 inch card we were able to make the whole card base from a single sheet of A4 card. More about that later.

Just 4 scorelines make this card work. The shadow box section attaches to the inside left panel near the centre fold, so when the card is opened, it pops up. Close it & the card folds flat.

The rounded shadow box frame inside is cut with the retiring Balloon Pop Up die *sob*. I can't believe these (& the fab coordinating Balloon Adventures stamp set) are not carrying over to the new catalogue. I've loved using them & used them lots, so please don't wait to get them as they're only available while stock last.

I cut all the 'balloon bits' from the cut out & adhered the intricate hot air balloon (with ombre sponged background) in the window, supported by a few clouds. I used some retired Sale-a-bration Carried Away designer paper to back the scene. You could sponge a background or cut & adhere some more cloud dies instead.

The card front might be feeling a little unloved with all this focus on the inside, so let's get back to it.

I stamped the balloons in night of navy ink, coloured them with markers, then added a good helping of Wink of Stella for sparkle. They're mounted on yet another sponge brayered background. Some Stitched Shapes circle die cuts to help the sentiment t(from Lift Me Up) to pop.

So want to make your own? Good news, I've put together a template & instructions for this one sheet version & will hopefully share this over the weekend with some other shadow box card projects. & it's below.

EDIT: Free Tutorial available to download here in this post

In the meantime, pin this collage as a reminder & later inspiration, then head over to the Just Add Ink blog to see how the team have used the challenge too.

Until then, inky wishes, Di

Oh So Succulent window box card & hexagon box

Today I'm sharing more sweet succulent projects using the Oh So Succulent stamp & die bundle. I'm still in shock that this lovely bundle is NOT carrying over to the new catalogue. It's so fun & easy to create stamped succulent clusters and lifelike versions too. These projects were class projects in March.

Window box tri-fold card

How cute would a sweet-sugarplum coloured house be? I don't think I could convince my darling man, but I can create pretty card versions at least.

I've created a vellum lined window & window box using the Hearth & Home die set then filled the box with pretty succulents. All line images are stamped in tip top taupe & solid stamped in mint macaron, sweet sugarplum, pear pizzazz, & sahara sand. I'm a huge agave plant fan too so I added a partial one on the ground to complete the scene. These are all 'clear Wink of Stella'd but hard to see in pic.

To make the tri fold base, I started with a full A4 sheet of sweet sugarplum card, cut it down to 15cm wide, then scored at 10cm & 20cms to make 3 panels. These measurements means the last panel is slightly smaller & folds perfectly back inside the card without overlapping the main fold.
On the middle panel I added a piece of the truly gorgeous Succulent Garden paper - another big fave (& a total bargain now  for just $11.55).

Opening the middle panel reveals more pretty succulents & plenty of space for a message.

and open, viewed from the back.

You know when you finish a card & it just makes you happy? This was one of those. :)

Succulent hexagon box

After catching the paper succulent bug with my succulent  pop up slider card, I wanted to share the fun with my class lovelies too. So I made this hexagon box decorated with succulents.

I just love hexagons - don't know why, I just do - so I was very excited to see the Window Box thinlits bundle I used to make them are carrying over to the new Annual Catalogue in June. The hexagon box base is made with crumb cake card, wrapped around with some more Succulent Garden dsp. I also cut a hexagon of white card to strengthen the lid to support the succulents. Here's another view.

Succulent Recipes
Large: 6 succulent dies (1 of each size) cut in mint macaron, sponged over with mint macaron ink & edges sponged in rich razzleberry ink
Medium mint: 5 dies (all except largest) cut in mint macaron, sponged in white &edges sponged in sweet sugarplum.
Medium sugarplum:
5 dies (all except largest) sponged in sweet sugarplum ink.
I burnished all succulent edges & centres to add dimension & separated the largest 2 layers with dimensionals.

So, are you a succulent convert yet? If you are, you'll be pleased to know that the Oh So Succulent stamp set & Succulents die set are each 20% off, & the Succulent Garden dsp is 40% off  during our Retiring List offers.
All these items are only available while stocks last so get in quick
