Today I'm sharing some cards using one of my favourite new sets from the Occasions catalogue, Beautiful Day. I was super excited to receive this as a prize patrol (just ask anyone at our table) at our November Stampin' Up! Onstage event, & not just because it has a gorgeous butterfly in it.
The butterfly & flower stamps are brilliant for soooo many different techniques. One of these is the stained glass technique, where a line image is heat embossed (usually in black) on vellum, then the back of the vellum is coloured with markers. This gives a lovely stained glass effect.
This technique was demonstrated to great effect at Onstage using Beautiful Day and our Stampin' Blends markers. Stampin' Blends are ideal for this, as they dry quickly on the vellum. You can also use our regular Stampin' Write markers too - they just take longer to dry. This is the card that was shared at Onstage, replicated by me of course. Isn't it pretty?
You can't see in the pic, but the black outline is so shiny. I stamped the butterfly on vellum using our archival black ink. Since the vellum is not porous, the ink sits on the vellum & takes longer to dry, so you've plenty of time to cover in clear embossing powder & emboss.
I coloured the butterfly with pool party & daffodil delight Stampin' Blends then mounted on some whisper white to make the colours pop more. The marker colours look more pale on the vellum, but you can add more layers & colour front & back for more depth.
See the green background? It's made with one of the other stamps in Beautiful Day, as is the lovely scripty sentiment. Some iridescent sequins & silver mini sequin trim adds sparkle. You could make a bunch of these in no time. Speaking of more cards...
...Here's another one I made using the same technique. This one became a make & take with a twist at our November team get together. The twist? Each person made their own variation of my samples, choosing their own colours & layout.
I used rich razzleberry, old olive, bermuda bay & pool party Stampin' Blends to colour this butterfly. The Quilt Top embossing folder (a Holiday Catalogue carryover - yippee) adds a pretty patterned background & lemon-lime twist ombre ribbon adds some zest. The fabulous birthday sentiment is also from Beautiful Day. Are you getting why I love this set?
Here's another variation in a landscape layout.
This time I stamped the butterfly in night of navy ink, then clear
embossed. The navy's not quite as solid as the black, but I love the
look. I coloured with bermuda bay, pool party & daffodil delight
Stampin' Blends, then fussy cut and adhered it onto a Fluttering embossing folder background with just a few glue dots. This makes the
transparency more obvious.
Inside, I added my (still) favourite birthday sentiment from Stylized Birthday & a partial butterfly. How cool does it look just stamped simply?
For this final butterfly, I stamped in night of navy ink on white card & coloured with Blends, creating a more blended look. Did you know you can use most of our regular ink pads with Stampin' Blends? This gives so many more options. The checked paper is from the retired Quilted Christmas paper - definitely not just for Christmas if you have some left.
Beautiful Day has one more beautiful image you haven't seen today - a lovely blossom - so I''ll share some projects with it next time. Here's the full set. Simply brilliant.
Edited 21 Jan - you'll find my Beautiful Day flower cards here.
Thanks so much for visiting today & I hope you've been inspired to try the stained glass technique or try your Stampin' Blends with some of our regular ink pad colours. You can get all the supplies I've used by following the links in my supply list below.
