JAI 409 technique challenge - 21st birthday eclipse

This week at Just Add Ink, Rachael has challenged us to use the eclipse technique on a project. This technique has been really popular over the last year so it's sure to be a popular challenge. I made this card for a special birthday celebration.

If you haven't tried the eclipse technique yet, it usually involves die cutting part of an image (a shape, word, number) then popping it back in place with a dark layer behind. This creates a fun, dimensional look. The JAI team have created all sorts of eclipse effects on their projects to give you lots of ideas so be sure to check out the JAI blog when you finish here.

As for my card, I stamped & clear heat embossed the stamped snowflake images (Colorful Seasons stamp & die bundle), onto shimmery white card then brayered on pool party, coastal cabana & a touch of blueberry bushel to create depth & dimension. I then sponged a little more coastal cabana in the centre of the snowflakes. My choice of snowflakes may seem unusual for a birthday but I think it will work well for the recipient.

Once the stamped panel was complete, I cut the 21 with the retiring Large Numbers dies (these babies will never leaving my collection). To make it really pop I adhered 2 thick cardboard layers and dimensionals below my top layer, and also used lots of clear Wink of Stella. (Are you thinking 'when does she not use Wink of Stella?').

I adhered the stamped panel onto a later of blueberry bushel & white card then adhered the raised 21 back in place. (I'm in love with this new blue). My favourite 'celebrate' die added more birthday shine. To make it pop I adhered 3 thick card layers under the silver glimmer paper.

Inside I added one of my favourite sentiments (also from Colorful Seasons) and more snowflakes & some matching layers.

So that's my take on the eclipse technique. Thanks for visiting today & I hope my project gave you some ideas to try. Do check out the team's projects on the JAI blog & play along with the challenge too.

All the items I used are available from my store via the links below. The Large Numbers dies are retiring & only available while stocks last, or until 31 May so don't miss out. Pin my project for later inspiration too.

Inky wishes & happy stamping
Di
