Hello and welcome! Today I'm sharing my team project for Just Add Ink just add a surprise challenge. Fun! What's my surprise? I made a shadow box card - a fancy fold card with a 3d shadow box surprise when the card is opened. I've made lots of these over the years and shared a pdf tutorial previously. I'll link it below.
The stars of this card are beautiful turtles from the Sea Turtle stamp set - new in the January-April Mini Catalogue. I've mixed bits and pieces from other stamp sets and dies too. Here's how it turned out.
Stamping - The sweet little turtles are stamped in Granny Apple Green and Parakeet Party ink, then I added some Parakeet Party Stampin Blends to add some shading, and fussy cut them out. The seaweed image is from the Whale Done stamp set and it's stamped in Starry Sky ink.
Blended Ink background - The striped paper is a lovely navy and white print from the Sun Prints pack. I thought it would make a great stylised sea so I created a graduated colour look with Starry Sky and Tahitian Tide inks and Blending Brushes.

Shadow box - The card opens to reveal the shadow box on the right and a panel with a coordinating diorama panel and another sentiment from Paradise Palms to write a message. I actually made the shadow box section first then carried the theme to the rest of the card, so you'll see the same elements repeated.
I cut the largest diorama shape that would fit the shadow box panel width (10cm/4 in), then I cut out a smaller die. I added some blended ink, and adhered it behind the larger opening. The blended ink paper is adhered to at the back of the shadow box.
I stamped the largest turtle in Granny Apple Green then applied ink with a Blending brush to add some shading and extra colour. I couldn't resist adding another little one. So cute. You'll see some vellum leaves poking out the bottom. These were handy leftover scraps from a past project (using the Poppy Moments dies).
So that's my surprise challenge. What do you think - good surprise? Leave me a comment if you've enjoyed it and save it for later on Pinterest. Be sure to check out the Just Add Ink blog to see all the surprise projects the team have shared too
