I'm not usually a doily girl so I initially thought I'd substitute the doily but since it is indeed a challenge I embraced the doily & here's what I came up with.
A very girly creation indeed that's all about the distressed flower in the centre. I've shared the combination of Floral Frames framelit dies & punches I used, below.
One of my fave elements is the hexagon tag, which I made from a single hexagon hive thinlits die cut. I cut it in two & pieced it back together, cutting out sections of the die where needed, then backed it in vellum. I like that I can see the paper & doily underneath, but still see the hexagons. I don't think I'll ever get over my love of hexagons! The sentiment is from the gorgeous Flower Patch set, which has not seen anywhere near as much ink as it deserves so far, but it played very nicely with the other elements. The DSP is the Best Year Ever SAB free paper pack.
How to make the flower
Flower Pieces needed
Floral Frames Framelits
- 3rd smallest flower - 1 x vellum, 1 x wild wasabi, 2 x calypso coral
- 2nd smallest flower - 2 x calypso coral
- smallest flower - 3 x crisp cantaloupe
Pansy punch - 3 x calypso coral
Candy Dots brad base with large pearl in centre
Instructions
1. Pierce hole in centre of all shapes.
2. Spray with water to wet each piece, then scrunch them up into a ball, then open up & roughly re-shape how you like.
3. Attach them together with a large brad, misaligning shapes as you go. Shape flowers until you have the look you want. Re-wet if needed. Leave to air dry or dry with heat tool if you're impatient like me.
Optional - spritz flower with champagne shimmer mist or other glitter spray (I used retired SU shimmer paint).
I think that covers everything, but please leave a comment if you have any q's or just if you liked my project. Remember to check out all the DT's creations over at Just Add Ink. We'd love you to play along too with the challenge too. Busy days ahead as I have two classes, so until next time, bye for now.

That flower is spectacular and definitely the star of your card!!! Love the colour combo too, very feminine indeed!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful card, Di! I, too, love the Hexagon Hive tag you've created (you clever thing), and the fact that, backed with vellum, it allows you to see the details underneath. Divine colour choices, and that gorgeous flower is an awesome focal point!
ReplyDeleteIt was all round oohs and ahhs from me the moment I saw that flower Di. I absolutely love the texture and softness of it! Piecing the hexagon hive together was an awesome idea too! xxx
ReplyDeleteWow Di! Love your card and your bloom is a stunning centrepiece of rich colour! So clever to use the hexagon hive as a tag too - love it! xx
