JAI 256 sketch challenge - blooming birthday

Wow, that week flew by, it's already time again for a new challenge at Just Add Ink. This week we have a sketch challenge for you to try.
I'm not usually a doily girl so I initially thought I'd substitute the doily but since it is indeed a challenge I embraced the doily & here's what I came up with.
A very girly creation indeed that's all about the distressed flower in the centre. I've shared the combination of Floral Frames framelit dies & punches I used, below.

One of my fave elements is the hexagon tag, which I made from a single hexagon hive thinlits die cut. I cut it in two & pieced it back together, cutting out sections of the die where needed, then backed it in vellum. I like that I can see the paper & doily underneath, but still see the hexagons. I don't think I'll ever get over my love of hexagons! The sentiment is from the gorgeous Flower Patch set, which has not seen anywhere near as much ink as it deserves so far, but it played very nicely with the other elements. The DSP is the Best Year Ever SAB free paper pack.

How to make the flower
Flower Pieces needed
Floral Frames Framelits

- 3rd smallest flower - 1 x vellum, 1 x wild wasabi, 2 x calypso coral
- 2nd smallest flower - 2 x calypso coral
- smallest flower - 3 x crisp cantaloupe
Pansy punch - 3 x calypso coral
Candy Dots brad base with large pearl in centre

Instructions
1. Pierce hole in centre of all shapes.
2. Spray with water to wet each piece, then scrunch them up into a ball, then open up & roughly re-shape how you like.
3. Attach them together with a large brad, misaligning shapes as you go. Shape flowers until you have the look you want. Re-wet if needed. Leave to air dry or dry with heat tool if you're impatient like me.
Optional - spritz flower with champagne shimmer mist or other glitter spray (I used retired SU shimmer paint).

I think that covers everything, but please leave a comment if you have any q's or just if you liked my project. Remember to check out all the DT's creations over at Just Add Ink. We'd love you to play along too with the challenge too. Busy days ahead as I have two classes, so until next time, bye for now.

Saying thanks with an iphone & bling

You know that moment when you look on your blog for a project & don't find it?... just me then ;-) So, quick post required to remedy that. I made today's card back in October, but better late than never.
This blingy creation came about when Miss C asked me to make a card for Renee, the lovely youth pastor at our church. Renee loves purple & always has the boldest, blingiest phone covers so I tried to make her a fun phone card. The base is elegant eggplant with a glimmer paper front. I also spritzed the wisteria wonder screen with shimmer mist for extra sparkle. The messages are a combination of 'Just Sayin' stamps & Regarding Dahlias (thank you) with the Word bubble framelit dies.
My card is based on these cute phone cards by Allison Okamitsu. I think I enlarged the size a bit but I can't find my notes to say what I did, so I'll edit the post if I find them. See dimensions below. I kept the inside very simple - another word bubble & space to write.

Cutting Measurements
I found my notes (yay!) so here the measurements I used.
Note:
the inch & cm measurements are slightly different as I rounded the inch measurements to make them easier to follow, so please don't mix the measurements!

Finished Front:                9 x 14.8cm     OR   3-1/2 x 5-3/4 inches
Cut:
Base: (elegant eggplant)    9 x 29.7cm     OR   3-1/2 x 11-1/2 inches
Glitter mat & inside mat:  8.6 x 14.4cm  OR   3-3/8 x 5-5/8 inches
Screen mat: (eggplant)     6.6 x 11cm      OR  2-1/2 x 4-1/4 inches
Screen: (wisteria)             6.2 x 10.6cm  OR  2-3/8 x 4-1/8 inches

Inky wishes, Di

JAI 255 Just add eggs-ovals: Mr Bunny's Easter eggs

It's time for a new challenge at Just Add Ink & this week is Just Add Eggs or Ovals. Heaps of options! I decided some Easter cuteness would be fun so I started with a bunny, then thought about eggs & finally this is what I came up with - a bunny & Easter eggs pop up card made with ovals!
Cute Mr Bunny was perfect for the challenge as he's mainly made with oval framelit dies & oval punches. He was designed by SU's Carrie Cudney & shared on the SU Corporate blog & I pinned it ages ago for future cuteness needs. He looks like he doesn't know where to start with all the eggs around his Easter wonderland. I'd be like that if they were chocolate too).
I backed the four large DSP eggs (Best Year Ever paper - free during Sale-a-bration - as is the ribbon) with card to make them stronger & attached the three largest eggs (two largest oval dies) to the card base back. I sponged all the egg & bunny pieces too. I made a pop-up support for the smaller egg (4th largest oval die). I also made a longer pop-up support for Mr Bunny. You can see the structure here & how to make him below.
Making Mr Bunny

Mr Bunny is made with the these dies & punches.

Body: 1 x 3rd largest oval die
Arms: 2 x smallest oval die - cut approx in half with a curved edge
Legs: 1 x smallest oval die - cut in half
Ears: 2 x smallest oval die
Ear inside: 2 x large oval punch (blushing bride)
Eyes: owl punch - 2 x medium eyes (white) & 2 x small eyes (early espresso)
Nose: cupcake punch - 1 x cherry (blushing bride)

The finished card definitely made me smile & even my teen daughter said it was really cute. Hope you like it too & leave a comment if you do...or if you have any questions. Remember to check out all the DT's fab creations & try the challenge yourself. Until next time...
Inky wishes,
Di

Masculine teen happy birthday - crazy about you

Don't you love those times when you need a card now, it comes together quickly, & you love the result. It doesn't happen near often enough for me, but thankfully it happened when I needed this card for a cool, teen family friend.
Most of the reason it came together quickly was thanks to this fab card by Diana Eichfeld, which I found on my travels & filed away to try. I really loved the layout, texture with just a bit of grunge. I'm also obsessed with the Crazy About You die & stamp bundle too so that helped. This is one layout I'll definitely be using again.

Teen guys are a tad difficult to shop for so we decided to go with cash - not something I often do but a good choice here - so I included a pocket on the inside. I used the hello honey stripe DSP (Lullaby) & grunge theme from the front too. I also added '17' using the Perfect Prints number dies. Did you notice I cut a little off the numbers to make them smaller - worked well I think.
I was amazed how quickly this came together & very happy when the teen recipient said it was a really cool card - wow! If you like it too or have any q's, leave some comment love here & on Diana's original too. Until next time...
Inky wishes, Di
