Remember when I shared my no-cut patterned paper folder tutorial back in October? Well, one person who saw it was the lovely Patty Bennett. Patty then came up with a clever & simple variation to give the folder a spine so it could hold a set of 4 notecards. You can see Patty's great Christmas sets here. All you need to change is replace the centre score at 6 inches with 2 scores at 5-3/4 & 6-1/4 inches instead!
Of course I really wanted to play with Patty's idea too & I finally tried it a couple of weeks ago to make 2 thank you gift sets for some wonderful customers using 2 Sale-a-bration freebies - the so very pretty Flowering Fields stamp set & Wildflower Fields 12x12 paper pack. Sooo easy!
Here's a some pics of the first set I made. The Wildflower Fields paper with bold floral on one side & the simple stripe on the reverse was perfect for a folder. Can you see the spine at the centre fold? The waratahs have been 'winked' & the stamped panel is raised on dimensionals too.
There are 4 note cards & envelopes inside the folder.
& here they are out of the folder.
I
used each of the 7 stamps in the Flowering Fields set for these cards,
plus 'thank you' stamp from the SAB Perfect Pairings set & 'for you' from my fave Birthday Blooms
set. If you want to include 4 cards in your own folder, it's best to keep the design fairly flat. My cards are sweet but very simple, made mainly with scraps. All the stamped images are in basic gray archival ink (my current fave) & I watercoloured the flowers with an aquapainter & ink from my pads. All the supplies I used are listed & orderable via the links at the end of my post.and one of the empty folder.
This empty folder pic shows how well the paper patterns played together.
Here's some closer pics of the cards from the first set. I added some free SAB silver glitter tape to the second set, which is the first set pictured in this post.
This first card was inspired by this sweet card by Laura Milligan.
I hadn't realised how many colours leucadendrons came in. You may not see a totally rich razzleberry version like mine but you never know. I'm not sure what flower the last one is but it's very pretty too...& sparkly irl.
So, what do you think? Do you love the idea of having more room in the folder as much as I do? I think it would be great for sets of tags, sharing photos, treats (thin-ish ones) & all sorts of things.
UPDATED TUTORIAL PDF
You can find my original folder tutorial from October in this post.I was reminded of how much people love them when I shared them with my class lovelies at my last class too. They loved the note card set idea too so I gave them the measurements to make one. Then I thought.....you'd probably like them too. Yes?
So, I've updated my tutorial with an extra page showing the template to make this version too.
Follow the tutorial to make a regular folder EXCEPT you'll change the score at 6 inches to scores at 5-3/4 & 6-1/4 inches. I've also included a link back to Patty's tutorial, which has a video tutorial too.
Here's what the extra page looks like:
A little request - If you choose to use it & share a project, I'd really appreciate if you could link back to this post so others can enjoy it. I'd love you to to leave a comment if you do. Pin the tutorial for later with this image too:
