JAI 303 - Just add E & birthday blooms

Friday means a fun new challenge at Just Add Ink & this week Tina wants us to just add 'E'. This can be a thing, theme, technique, or anything beginning with E, & the team have all sorts of exciting E's to share so make sure you check them out.
As for me, eggs & Easter came to mind first since Easter is next week but I wanted to make a birthday card for a friend so that's what I did. Can you pick my E's?

Well, they're elegant eggplant card & ink, & embossing (dry & heat embossing). Can you believe this is the first time I've inked up that gorgeous flower from Birthday Blooms? Here it us up close & 'Winked'.

I stamped the image in elegant eggplant ink on thick whisper white card, then watercoloured it with an aquapainter & elegant eggplant ink from the pad, then fussy cut it out. I stamped & roughly coloured another image on the white layer too.
In case you're wondering, yes - you can watercolour even though the elegant eggplant outline isn't waterproof. I only have a little water in the aquapainter, work quickly & try to minimise going over the lines too many times. The result won't be as blended as on watercolour paper but I still like the look. Isn't it cool that you can use the same pad for the outline & colouring?!
Footnote - I could also have heat embossed the image in eggplant, but I liked the soft look... & didn't think of it until after ;-) I did emboss the base card though with versamark & clear embossing powder.

I carried the theme to the inside & added a sentiment from the Cottage Greetings stamp set.

JAI 301 - Just add numbers - 20th anniversary

It's new challenge time already at Just Add Ink & this week Nikki has challenged us to Just Add Numbers. This was well timed as I have quite a few peeps having 'number' milestones of different sorts at the moment, This week, some very dear friends are celebrating their 20th anniversary so this is what I made:

This card is more neutral than the 50th anniversary card I shared last week, but I still think very celebratory thanks to the silver numbers & stripe on the Shine On kraft card. The shine is very obvious IRL but not so much in the pic. Maybe this pic shows it better?

Leaving the shine aside for a mo, let's talk more about the card construction. So simple! I cut '20' from the Shine On cardstock with Large Numbers dies in the Number of Years bundle then mounted it onto black & silver foil panels with dimensionals. I really liked how the wooden Congrats (Expressions natural elements again!) looked with the kraft/silver card.

The number theme (remember that) really took over on the inside. I remembered the Something to Say stamp set had a great pair of number sentiments which fitted our friends really well. I used them together with the positive 20 cut-out from the front, plus the anniversary Number of Years bundle sentiments. Some more silver hearts & it was done.

Fun, huh? I think this card would make a great masculine birthday card too, so give it a try. Here's one more pic before I go.

I hope our friends know how happy we are that they've reached this wonderful milestone when they get our card. JAI 300 sketch challenge - two big milestones

This post celebrates two wonderful milestones; first we've reached our 300th Just Add Ink challenge - how awesome is that! (& there are prizes too). Today is also a lovely friend's 50th wedding anniversary so that's definitely worth celebrating with a card. Kim designed this fun sketch for the challenge so we hope you'll celebrate with us by playing along.

I loved Kim's sketch & it worked beautifully for this 50th wedding anniversary card.

I had an idea to in my head to use  the Bloomin' Love bundle with Number of Years bundle then saw this beautiful card by Mary Brown on Pinterest (as you do) so I think the final card ended up being a combination of both. I used a classic combination of white, black & gold, with a little touch of crumb cake - so elegant I think.
I created a little cluster using that beautiful heart die & 4 small coordinating flowers, gold heat embossed numbers, banner, & grounded it on a black banner.

The gold background on the card is an overlay of gold foiled vellum from the retired Winter Wonderland pack (2015 Holiday Catalogue), attached only at the top-back of the thick whisper white card base. That extra touch of gold added such elegance & shine I think.
