JAI 568 sketch challenge - Peaceful Deer Christmas

It's a sketch challenge week at Just Add Ink and Lou has created an oh so flexible sketch for us. I decided this was a perfect opportunity to make my first Christmas card of 2021. My darling man keeps saying I need to start now so I don't finish on Christmas Eve again this year. *laughs* Have you started yours yet?

I chose to use the Peaceful Deer stamp set and punch bundle - a new release from our Christmas Mini Catalogue together with the two fresh paper prints from the Tidings of Christmas paper pack (from the Annual Catalogue). Here's how it turned out.

I've kept the design clean and simple to suit the sketch, but this is generally my fave style of card for Christmas as it helps me make more in lots of designs.

Take some paper prints, add a stamped element and sentiment and touches of shine. Done.

Let's walk through the card elements:

  • Paper - I love the fresh, modern botanical prints in the Tidings of Christmas paper pack. They mix and match beautifully.
  • Stamped image - I stamped one of the deer in the Peaceful Deer bundle in Basic Gray ink, then coloured it with Crumb Cake and Ivory Stampin' Blends alcohol markers.
  • Stamped sentiment - Merry Christmas is also from Peaceful Deer. There are lots sentiments included in the set that you can mix and match. This was stamped in Evening Evergreen ink. I added a piece of Foam Sheet behind the sentiment piece to pop it up without
  • Shine & Shimmer - The gold foil hexagon (Expressions in Ink Ephemera pack) helps keep the focus on the deer, the red embellishments have little gold specks in them, and I subtly outlined the deer with some Wink of Stella.

Even though the design is simple I still like to carry the theme inside with another paper strip, little deer and more sentiments.

So that's my take on the challenge sketch. Head over to the Just Add Ink blog to see all our Design Team cards. Hope you'll try it too and get stuck into making your own Christmas cards too.

Oh, how lovely! The deer look amazing, and I love how you've placed him in the gold frame. Such an elegant card!
