Hello & welcome! Today I'm sharing a fun fold Christmas card that's also a gift card holder. This is my Design Team project for this week's Just Add Ink challenge.
I've used the Stitched Triangles dies with the Heartwarming Hugs patterned paper pack to create a cluster of Christmas trees on the card front with a scored and popped out section. This is an adaption of what I now understand is called a bay window card.
This card came about after seeing some lovely cards made by Cathy, a lovely SU teamie & friend. I thought the folded and popped out front it was such a fun idea, so Cathy shared what she did.
Somewhere along the
way, mine turned out a bit differently as I was working out the folds. #howdidthathappen 😄 Anyway, you can see how the card front pops out a bit better in these pics.
My card base is half an A4 sheet cut longways, then scored and folded to create the bay window look.
The right front sits under a flap on the inside to hold it in place when open. A corresponding score on the left front is glued down so it looks symmetrical when open.
Take a closer look at the card when it's closed flat.
Details
- Two Wonderful Snowflakes are adhered to the centre panel edges, leaving the overhanging sections unglued.
- The 3 centre Stitched Triangles are layered together then adhered to the middle panel, also overhanging the edge. The striped tree is adhered to front and the other two are popped up on Dimensionals.
- The far left and far right triangles are adhered directly to the base.
- The stamped sentiment is from the retiring Words of Cheer stamp set & bundle.
- Bling is from the retiring Subtle Shimmer Sequins pack - a very useful pack.
Inside I've carried the tree theme over and created a pocket to hold a gift card and included a coordinating sentiment (also from Words of Cheer).
So that's my Christmas adapted bay window card and gift card folder. I hope you enjoyed seeing it. Check out all our Just Add Ink team projects on the JAI blog for more ideas.
Regular Bay Window Card Tutorials
I don't know where Cathy found the idea for her bay window cards, but some googling found these lovely & similar cards by Rachel Tessman. Lisa Curcio shared lovely cards and a tutorial here. Check them out.
If you'd like more info on my adapted card or a tutorial, leave a comment, and I'll see if there's enough interest. Check out the supplies I used, so you can make your own version too.
Until next time, happy stamping & inky wishes
