JAI 610 inspiration challenge - black and white blended floral birthday

Hello & welcome! I'm here to share my team project for this week's Just Add Ink 610 inspiration challenge. The challenge image is interesting and different on many levels - fun, multiple monochromatic photos, bold pops of colour and a grid layout. These all gave so many options to create my card.

For once I was quite decisive, choosing to focus on the black, white, pops of colour, and grid layout. I substituted balloons on strings for colourful stemmed flowers. The Perfectly Penciled paper pack, Sending Smiles stamp and die bundle and Stampin' Blends markers came together to create the final look.

I thought the pretty stemmed black and white flower print from the Perfectly Penciled pack was a fun nod to the balloons on strings in the challenge image. I choose my rainbow of colours from the balloon colours, colouring the paper with Stampin' Blends alcohol markers.

Stampin' Blends colours: Sweet Sorbet, Poppy Parade, Polished Pink, Fresh Freesia, Calypso Coral, Pale Papaya, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, and Parakeet Party.

Tip: The paper is lighter in weight than regular cardstock so it can't absorb as much Blends ink, so go easy colouring and blending to minimise risk of bleeding outside the image. Use your Color Lifter gently to push any bleeding back inside the image.

Once I'd coloured the image I cut it into 9 even pieces to represent the challenge image grid. I added foam adhesive sheets on the back to help it pop over the black cardstock,

The 'sending' die and 'birthday wishes' sentiment and banner (from the new Sending Smiles bundle) play nicely with the paper layer. I like the double layer effect with the card and vellum. I teamed the sentiment with a pierced circle - from Stylish Shapes die set again - and some vellum and black card butterflies from the Brilliant Wings die set. Iridescent rhinestones add a touch of bling.

I love the combination of fonts and different occasion options in the Sending Smiles bundle, and that it's teamed with the modern builder florals ('ll need to use the florals another time). So that's my take on the challenge image. Do you think I made it work? Be sure to head to the Just Add Ink blog to see all our Design Team projects and then try the challenge yourself. We love seeing what you create.
