JAI 429 Just add vellum - Christmas poinsettia pop up

This week's new Just Add Ink challenge is possibly the easiest ever.

Why? Perhaps because I suggested it, but also I LOVE vellum.

I've kept my card simple this week, but it does show one of my favourite ways to use vellum and has a fun surprise inside, that's really easy to do, uses simple supplies, and adds wow. That's also something I love to do. Keeping it simple with a wow is especially important for Christmas cards, where you're generally making lots.

Looks a normal card so far? How cool is that gorgeous poinsettia (from the Peaceful Poinsettia bundle) by the way.

Open up the card and the stitched square elements pop out from the inside.

Here's a closer look inside.

I saw this pop up window card concept here on the legendary Jennifer McGuire's blog and used the principles she shared to make my card.

The pop up mechanism is so simple to do. Essentially, it's just a little scored rectangle that's slightly smaller than the element you want to pop up. This only adds minimal extra supplies which is always a plus.

I used the largest of the square dies in the Stitched Shapes set to cut the window & shaded spruce square, and the second largest  for the white, stamped layer.

The pop up support piece is simply a rectangle scored once on one side and twice on the other side. You can see it better here.

I'll share more about how to do the pop up next time when I share a second, similar card using the beautiful line image stamps in the Peaceful Poinsettia.

But back to the beautiful poinsettia

Using the vellum layer below the red poinsettia both softens the dotty paper below and helps the poinsettia pop.

I love how it looks with the handwritten look sentiments from the Making Christmas Bright stamp set (also a bundle). It's so easy to use different colours with this, as the red and spruce sentiments are separate stamps.

So this card also became one of my September Christmas card class projects too and I think my lovely ladies liked it too.

Before I sign off, I just wanted to share 2 final little variations of this card. The one on the right is not a window card, but it gave me the idea to adapt another pop up window card (which I'll share next time).

Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed seeing my vellum & Christmas card idea. Check out the other Design Team projects on the Just Add Ink blog & try using vellum yourself for the challenge.

See the supply list below to get any of the supplies I used. Back soon with more ideas.

Happy stamping & inky wishes,
Di

Beautiful cards. Love how you used vellum behind the pretty poinsettia, and the pop up window part is a great idea. Thanks for sharing.
