JAI 484 colour challenge - birthday boy

If pastels are your thing you'll love this week's Just Add Ink colour challenge. Check out this soft and pretty combination of balmy blue, blushing bride, highland heather and smoky slate.

My card is perhaps an unexpected way to use them - a birthday card for my darling man using the fun Animal Outing stamp set - but you have to shake it up sometimes. 😁

Maybe not everyone's idea of a guy card, but I thought darling man would think it was fun & cute - which he did when I gave it to him on Wednesday. Yay!

Tips & Techniques

Reverse/Mirror Stamping

The cute rhinos are from the Animal Outing stamp set. Notice they're facing one another? There's only one image in the stamp set (the blue rhino), but a magic technique called mirror/reverse stamping enables you to stamp & cut the image in reverse.

Mirror stamping is especially easy with a Stamparatus (SAR) and silicone craft mat.
1. Place the Silicone mat on the SAR base.
2. Place stamp on SAR stamping plate, and stamp image onto silicone craft mat.
3. Place cardstock gently on top of image without smudging it (line up your card with SAR corner),
and rub cardstock to transfer image. If image not dark enough, repeat this step.
4. Flip over cardstock in same place, ink up image again and stamp on card. This gives you an aligned image on both sides of card.
5. Use coordinating die to cut out normal image. The reversed image will be cut out perfectly too. Magic!

This is much easier to see and do than explain. Watch Linda Heller show the reverse/mirror technique beautifully in this video on her fb page (using a fab sneak peek of a new bundle coming in January too).

Watercolouring - The rhinos are watercoloured with balmy blue, blushing bride and smoky slate ink onto whisper white card. Basic gray & smoky slate inks are not waterproof but work if you're careful not to use much water.

The other elements used are hearts from the Stitched be Mine die set. I love the cluster especially. Also used my fave gingham paper print - this one is smoky slate from the Neutrals collection pack.

The birthday sentiments are from the Perennial Birthday stamp set and Wild about you from Animal Outing, which has all sorts of animal cuteness - even a koala and kangaroo - and useful sentiments too.

But back to the colour challenge. That's my take, but be sure to visit the Just Add Ink blog to see all the Design Team creations for more ideas. It's a beauty of a combination for all sorts of cards, so try it out and link up your project too.

Thanks for visiting today. I'll be back with more Christmas inspiration over the weekend.

Happy stamping & inky wishes,
Di
