Hello and welcome. Today I have a new Just Add Ink team project to share with you. This week we have an unusual colour challenge where you can choose to use 3 or 6 of the chosen colours.
I must say this was a puzzling combo for me to start with, but I was drawn to the blues/aquas *no surprise there* and the yellow, and thought they'd work well with the Country Birdhouse stamps and die bundle and my Stampin' Blends markers. In the end I snuck in little bits of the other colours too. Here's how my card turned out.
The card is mostly white cardstock except for the Azure Afternoon mat and a scrap of Misty Moonlight inside the circle, with all the colour coming from my Stampin' Blends alcohol markers. I love that they can make your die cuts or embellishments whatever colour you want. And it makes die cutting a whole lot quicker.
I probably wouldn't have coloured the birdie purple & yellow except for the challenge, but you could colour it any way you'd like. I still think it looks pretty sweet.
Details
- The white base has Azure Afternoon ink applied with a blending brush - it creates a soft, subtle background and grounds the birdhouse.
- All stamping is Night of Navy
- Birdhouse marker colours are:
Daffodil Delight light and dark - walls, post, bird and flower centres.
Night of Navy light & dark - roof and base
Azure Afternoon - roof scallops & perch
Highland Heather light & dark - bird - Wink of Stella on the birdie and flowers
Inside I've stamped & cut out another outline (minus the circles so I can write in it), and coloured it with Azure Afternoon. The hanger is a coloured die cut. I like how you can use the stand piece or make it hang.
Photopolymer Stamp Alighment Tips
Stamping with the large birdhouse reminded me to share some tips for using images like this.
Stamps with lots of detailed edges can be misaligned when you put it on the block and so they don't align as well with the die when cut. I do two things to make sure my stamps align and cut well.
1. Whenever I mount a photopolymer stamp I place it face down on my desk first, lining it up with my grid paper to make sure it's straight, then I place my clear block on top, also making sure it's straight. This helps me stamp straight.
2. For stamps like the birdhouse that don't have a solid back, or have long, thin sections (like thin branches), I first place the stamp on top of the coordinating die to keep the image in the correct place, then place the stamp block on top to mount. This makes for much more even cutting.
I'll try to add some more pics later to show this, or do another post to explain better. But if you have any questions, leave a comment.
Anyway, I hope today's project idea sparks something you'd like to try. Do head over to the Just Add Ink blog to see how the team used the colour challenge, then try the challenge yourself. My suggestion for this one would be to pick 3 colours and an image that works for them. Then have a play!
If you'd like to make your own birdhouse card, see and shop the full supply list here in my Stampin' Up! store.
Thanks for visiting today, and until next time, happy stamping.
